He's such a complete douchebag. This is why I love him so. And the fact that he brought something like TEN different heavy fringe jackets with him to Alaska in the movie Fire Down Below. Who does that? A GENIUS, that's who!
I knew people who trained with him in Aikido, and I saw a videotape of one of his seminars back just around the time of his first film.
What's really sad is he was a very good teacher, a good aikido practitioner. What's not so great is how he got his position, and once he made his first film everything went downhill from there, as far as I can tell. By all reports his students were very good and his first dojo in Taos was still running last I heard (maybe 12 years ago), putting out decent aikido students.
