Screw your generic mass texts
Aug. 9th, 2008 08:33 amYesterday, I woke up over an hour late because the radio portion of my clock radio died. The idea of getting a new alarm clock makes me sad. I've been using this one since elementary school. I'm used to it. I can set it in my sleep.
I turned the alarm portion on last night to see if it still works, and woke up to its obnoxious sound this morning at 6:30. I dozed back off and was enjoying interesting dreams when I got a text message at 7:30. Of course I know I could turn the ringer off when I go to sleep, but I leave it on in case something important comes up. You know what's not important at 7:30am on a Saturday?
And don't get me started on the stupid holiday wish texts.

Happy saturday 2 u!What the hell? Now, it's true that the sender is on the East coast, but I'm quite sure he's heard of time zones. I would have been fine with a 7:30am text message saying, hey, stuck in ur neighborhood for a while, want coffee? But I honestly have no need for a poorly-timed, generic warm and fuzzy.

Date: 2008-08-09 06:05 pm (UTC)One of my cellphones has an area code that is two hours ahead of me, so once in a blue moon I get an early-morning wrong number.
But last month some dentist's office (two hours ahead of me) somehow got my number associated with some patient of theirs, and THEY COULD NOT UNDERSTAND THAT THEY HAD THE WRONG NUMBER and they WOULD NOT DELETE IT FROM THEIR SYSTEM. And for some unknown reason, they started making their confirmation calls at 7am their time, which meant I was getting just-after-5am calls asking if Little Cletus Roy Bob (okay, not the actual name they used) would be at his dental appointment. And of course since they wouldn't change the number in their system or make any kind of note for others that the number was wrong, they kept calling and calling because the appointment was still 'unconfirmed'! The final call was thankfully a little later one morning, when they called to tell me that Little Cletus was late for his appointment.
Arrrrgggghhh. I think they had the hospital admission clerk from "Idiocracy" running that office.
