We have the technology, we should use it

Bug reminded me of The Telephone, which I haven't seen in years, so I went to Netflix only to find they don't have it. Turns out it was released on DVD but was discontinued long ago. I ordered a used copy from someone on Amazon, but really, why should I have to? Why don't the owners of these movies put them somewhere online or sell DVDs on demand? We live in a golden age of consumer technology, it's time for everyone to put it to good use.
