lol, out of context much? Funny quote though. The same passage tells that if a son is stubborn and rebellious you can kill him. (Deut 21:18-21) My son would be dead about 100 times over.
And I know I am alone here, regardless of god or anything, I think that it should remain that way.
I'll get a little personal and finally come out and say something I haven't been able to in my own lj or to friends.
I can't have children. I don't plan on doing anything about that. I consider it a sign, or the way it's supposed to be, or whatever.
I'm not saying I won't adopt, or that gays shouldn't be able to (I damn well support that), but the fact of the matter is gay sex does not make babies. So if god is your thing, gay sex goes against god.
But I don't think any of these opinions should be law, or accepted universally.
Hotly debated topic, but in my church BC that obstructs or can potentially obstruct pregnancy at any point after fertilization is a sin. So condoms = no sin, IUD = sin.
Dunno what Ashleigh is talking about with the whole reproduction thing, I think she lost me.
The point I get from this sign is that you can't use the Bible for certain quotes while ignoring all the parts that don't appeal to you. If you want to follow the Bible, either follow every word of it, or admit that you're hypocritical.
I see your point that the bible shouldn't be used to label everyone across the board as a sinner.
My stance, is that if you follow the bible, then you kind of are.
I just don't believe that one set of beliefs should dictate that how EVERYONE is treated. It's kind of the same as what you said. You can't pick and choose.
Well yeah, I don't care if 99% of the world follows the Bible as their own set of beliefs, as long as they keep it to themselves. I don't go out trying to make everyone be gay.

Date: 2009-09-18 05:18 pm (UTC)But that doesn't mean people don't pick and choose passages out of context to try and argue that fact.
I think the point of the poster is just "what if we took everything literally?"
I guess I don't feel the need for all of these citations. The bottom line is, gay =/= reproduction. So if god is your thing, I guess leave it at that.

What a person SHOULDN'T do, is move from judgement and belief, to a call to action, law, harrassment, etc.

But if you're just walking down the street holding a basketball, who the fuck cares.
I don't think it's wrong that hard core "basketball" fans can declare that carrying a ball anywhere is against the rules.
If you're not playing within the confines of the game, then no sin!
