True story:

I was a production assistant for a TV show shooting near Inglewood, CA. (A very Black/Hispanic area.) One of my duties was to keep the office kitchen stocked with food, snacks, drinks, etc.

I happened to go to a different grocery store than I was used to, and I was having a hard time finding everything on my list because I wasn't used to the way the store was set up.

I, the only white person in the store, asked a black lady "Excuse me, do you know where the crackers are?"

She looked blank/stunned for a moment and then pointed me in the right direction.

I felt a bit dumb for my wording.
