The new busy season
Apr. 30th, 2022 07:24 amEvery profession has its time of year when it's super busy at work. Accountants just before tax day, designers before fashion week, and now me before Earth Day. We had a lot going on, and while much of it was right on schedule, a lot of it was very last minute and even late. My advice? If you ever have to hire social media influencers, start much earlier than you need to. Especially if you have to send them stuff to feature in videos and might need replacement items because things sell out.
Our main Earth Day promo was built around an incredible cardboard sculpture by renowned artist Laurence Vallières, and it took her about three weeks to build it. During that time, I had a slew of blog posts, emails, and much more to write. Some of the most challenging posts I've done in a while, too. Those were all very last minute because I always work the to-do list in order by deadline and there was plenty of normal stuff in the schedule as well. But I got it done! It was very fun to see the sign that I wrote in the park with the bear when I got there, and the photographer offered to get this shot for me.

I did, indeed, wear a bear shirt on purpose.

By the time we took this, I had that sunburn I posted about. It's fine now. Maybe a little more tan than I like.

It was really great to finally meet my boss and our head of PR in person, they came all the way from Australia for the week. My boss had a bad morning trying to find a good breakfast in my old neighborhood her first day in town, so when I came down the day before Earth Day, I picked her up and drove her to Coastal Kitchen, a Capitol Hill institution. One that's great to go to on a weekday because you don't have to wait in line.
This van was at the park when I stopped by to scope out where the bear would be installed. And I kept getting "Can you save the bear?" ads for Candy Crush in Instagram.

If you care to see the campaign landing page, it's here. Our new whitepaper is available there, which I'm so glad I was an editor for instead of the author. It really was best to have our director of sustainability in charge of it, she's the expert.
Going to Seattle was a bit of a slog, as always, but I got to have an amazing long lunch with my old friend Paul who I hadn't seen in years. And we had a team dinner at Terra Plata, which was incredible. It's really nice working for a company that treats its employees well. Not something I'm used to at all!
