My left ear is aching slightly. I'm trying not to worry about it, but the sensation takes me back to when I was a kid and I had an ear infection that was so bad I had to lay on my side on a towel-covered pillow so the towel could soak up all the fluid draining out. The fluid eventually built up behind my eardrum and broke it.

That and scarlet fever were my two major illnesses when I was a kid. I really go all-out when I get sick. Thankfully, it's not very often.

Hey, I had scarlet fever when I was a kid too! yay! I mean... sort of.

I had an ear infection too. It was bad enough I had to go to the doctor, but not so bad it broke my eardrum. Yikes.

That and various dog bites were it for me as a kid.

As a person who has had chronic ear problems since childhood (I SHOULD have been deaf according to physicians), I recommend a few drops of Hydrogen Peroxide in your ear before bed - and sleep with that side up so that it bubbles nicely. You'll be fine the next day (do this only when you're having problems, otherwise it will start to eat away at your ear canal).

Long ago, my grandmother used to put a teaspoon of warm brandy in my ear...but that just numbs it and probably attributed to why I'm so fucked up now.

This reminds me of the time we ? (not exactly sure of who we were) ... arrived at your home to find your mother very upset because she had just stabbed her eardrum with a qtip! I still won't use qtips for that because of that incident.. OWE!

I don't remember running into her specifically, I just remember finding a bathroom full of bloody q-tips. She decided to leave the bathroom while cleaning her ear and hit her arm on the doorway.

Every time I ever think of moving even an inch while cleaning my ears, I see bloody q-tips and freeze in place.
